Ну вот, теперь моя ОС вообще не определяется.:-(

A new era is coming for me. My computer (2008-2014) is dying and bought a new nice one, coming home in ten days.

Going from Win XP to WIN 7 is the only downside. They asked me to choose between win 7 and 8, I hope I took the right decision.

Если ты играешь в heroes 2, то в windows 8 есть проблема с win версией homm2. Остаётся играть только в сборку от gog с настроенным dosbox.

В остальных случаях windows 8 - это тоже самое, что и windows 7, только лучше. Пуск, виджеты, аэро можно поставить сторонними программами, хотя разобравшись тебе не понадобится их ставить. ИМО.

hey, thanks. Should I ask for win8 then? Anyone here using it and be able to run games as H3? because I hear a lot of people complaining about 8.

Those who swear on windows 8 is simply not ready to spend a 2-3 minutes to find a sane manual. I can not tell the English language, as even in Russian were very detailed manuals.

Valery, win 8 is much worse, than win 7. Impossible to configure on the slightest advanced level (at least 8.0 is, don't know about 8.1).

fireman, я пытался настроить VPN на восьмёрке. Долго бился над этим, перечитал кучу мануалов (в которых одно и то же) и абсолютно ничего не вышло. На 7 и XP настроил с ходу.

Valery, choose Win 8. If you dislike ui - install Pokki or Classic Shell.
Personally, i don't have issues with playing Era II (either on 7 and 8) or any other game from my library.

Вообще чисто пользовательского уровня минусов вин8.1 как искал не нашёл. Все интерфейсные приблуды можно настроить как хочешь, и отмена пуска привела к более крутым реализациям пуска чем были, хотя куда круче сочетание клавиш win+f.

Valery, the thing is that if you need a computer is for entertainment then there is absolutely no difference. You will see the same browser, game, media player etc. This is what fireman and SyDr are saying. But if you need a computer for work - forget about Windows 8. It's not even an option.

Ну это вообще к делу не относится. Я настраивал обычный, нормальный VPN, а не хитро закрученный OpenVPN. А проблема в том, что просто физически нет возможности настроить на таком уровне, как в предыдущих Windows.

I would prefer Win 7. Stable, tested. But with your monster-PC any OS will be flying...

I need a computer for everything, both gaming and work. From what I read everywhere, everyone seems to have issues with win8, this is why I asked for win7.

Now I am confused even more, if some say win 8 over 7.

I'v been fan of WinXP, but my notebook do not supported it by drivers
After 3 year I'm still working on 1st distributive Win7 Ultimate, and have not any trubble with OS
Я пробовал на практике Win8 и мне она была не удобна по многим аспектам, и в ней я не увидел ничего такого, что мне не даст для моих привычных нужд Win7
Пока что, MS поддерживает Win7 полностью, как и Win8, так что не вижу уж такой надобности даже на новом "hardwear" гнаться за последним детищем корпорации MS

что до сравнений, то думаю новая "железка" Валерия сможет потянуть две ОС сразу, и Win7 и Win8, дабы он сам смог на практике сравнить и понять какая ему ближе по жизни ;-)

Ok guys, thanks for advices, I will stick with win7 then.

My only concern is about being also able to play old dos games, as modern games I don't like, too much graphical fuzz.
