The def-file should remain in pac-file, you just add its frames as png files to Mods\Your mod\Data\Defs\name of your def\*.png.
The first frame in def will look like 0_0.png, the second 0_1.png and so on...

Berserker, Well, def is not the same as gif, at least not in the way it is used ![Rolleyes Rolleyes](http://wforum.heroes35.net/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif) Another question that led me regarding that, can defs be used in game dialogs and I never realized it? I mean, animated defs within another def...

Сейчас спецом зашел проверить, все работает, портреты отображаются, в том числе с прозрачностью.
\Mods\Имя мода\Data\Defs\TwCrPort.def\0_0.png
