I could afford a era/wog advertising site if any of you is interested in designing it (Bes, Bersy?). Right now the total mods are about 2 gb max size, so I think a 5-10 gb maximum storage is ok?
We upload all mods there and it stays as long as I am alive (or I have a job). With advertisings, up to date versions, clickable links. Nude section on request!
I know nothing about creating paying sites, so if you have good ideas or examples, write here, show me some.

Thank you very much, Val, for the proposal, but in fact the problem you try to solve consists of several parts:
1) Financial. Paying for hosting and domain name, site design development.
2) Time. Making a site is a lot of work. Same concerns site maintaining. I am simply lack of time for it, preferring to put efforts on code and improvements.
Even for implementing simple mods database one should have at least 3-4 free days. I'm working in a Web studio for two months already, seems like I'm right with terms.
We can order a hosting and install some file exchange scripts to allow file uploading. It should be simpler then WoGArchive, perhaps and without custom design, at least, for some time. What do you think?

We do not need to design the site in the next 24 hours. I could just buy the space, then you design it when have time. More people can have access to administrator area if they can design parts of it. For now we can just upload all the mods.
But I need a link to some web doing such things, preferably good quality. And compare prices with quality, yet I am a noob in such areas.
I would also prefer not a russian host, those have the annoying habit to go often down or rip you off.
An example:
with videos, images, link to updates and to forums (here and HC)

This server will be enough to host CMS (Content management system) and File exchange service + any special Heroes 3 related servises like online ERM code knowledge database (collection of functions, hacks and snippets created by community).
If price hurts, drop the CPanel.

You can adjust server settings any time. So if 512 Mb is not enough you enter control panel and set it to 1024 MB )
Yep, 1024 will be surely enough even for high loads.
Try Debian-7-x86_64 then and 1024 MB RAM for x64. Chicago will have a higher ping then Europe

I feel like is easier and more fair to have a subsection era than have a site called era but based on wog.
So wake-of-gods sounds better to me, then latest version: era with its huge part (mods/downloads/advertisings). Should also propose 3.58 in downloads because there are many maps designed only for it.

Well, I try to come up with easy google names. Heroes3 is a better google than homm and wakeofgods a better one as era, which is rather new.
wog (unfortunately) means a lot of things, from insult (slang) to world of gothic games, which is quite famous.
So IMO, wakeofgods or Heroes3/III should be inside.

Don't be in a hurry. You will need a ftp client to upload mods and have direct links to them. Or you can use cpanel file manager interface. Would be nice if you share cpanel account credentials with me, so that I could make a basic configuration according to your demands and give basic explanations.

An idea of the site is awesome. An extended description for each mod, links, bugs and discussion would be also outstanding, yet I don't know about Sal's plans.

It is already bought (wakeofgods.org for 2 years, 20 Go), but transaction will be 100% done on Tuesday as my bank requires me to approve personally each online transaction, I was scammed 4 months ago (chinese dicks buying panama-honolulu airplanes tickets with my credit card)
The optimal idea would be (I have no idea if it is possible) that every mod maker has the possibility to enter the part of the site allowed to his mod, update, advertise and rework the design. It would be like partitioning a HDD, with one or multiple administrator accesses, then each mod maker access on demand, and for a specific area. Even if it sounds complicate, it will certainly be required only for 4-5 constantly updated mods, as Phoenix, Succession Wars, HoL, maybe Sagamosa (if he comes back) so not really 500 guys running and changing things inside.
I am totally noob in html or web design so could be quite long to do. But will be there for upload first.

Hmm, that domain name sounds cool and definitely useful for promo, yet I am a bit afraid that people will come for wog 3.59 on the first place.
If I understand correctly, you intend a creation of a fully functional modding portal. I guess you might want to use some html templates since there are is a selection of already working modding portals (fallout, gothic, etc.)
I may also participate in 3.59 development, so I could be responsible for its info as well.

Sagamosa was converted to Era. For now I only make list of english based mods for era. When I setup more upload sections, I thought about creating for different languages too. Or should I put every mod out in same section then, no matter the language?

Ybackpack was converted to Heroes improved interface. Gran Manoeuvre is already part of wog revised (should I upload it standalone?). Most of others I will find in HC, no idea about Mop straker.

ok, I met today the guy responsible of our university Web site as he told me he can teach me all about design.
He spent half hour to try to open a txt file with a jpeg file (!), then asked me what means .exe files he saw on site. After half hour he said he has no idea how to use wakeofgods.org back-door interface so I lost chocolates and wine Bootle.
Learnt nothing, will see next week, maybe I find someone a bit more clever, this one looked like a complete idiot.

I guess it can be due to the dead state of the hosting provider. It's like with internet stores which no longer exist but their sites are partially working.
The only thing to be afraid of is the domain name. Will you be able to use the same domain name or that host1plus reserved it?

DNS service asks me to pay 0,42 $$/month. But I can't even pay, their automatic pay options start at 40$ and to enter custom price (1$ in this case) you need to be registered. Or their confirmation email has unknown code to me. Beside, my antivirus warns me about their site and constantly blocks it.
As we see, things changed on 10/05/2014, when DNS entered in the game. When I bought domain, there was no dns.

I have no idea where you got those nameservers, but they are clearly a scam. So why did you enter them in the first place when you register your domain. You can log into your client area https://manage.host1plus.com/clientarea.php , select "my domains", click edit near the domain, then you will be able to register your own nameservers. There is a button below "Register name servers" click it. Then create ns1.domain.tld and ns2.domain.tld pointing to your VPS. You will have to install bind or similar service on your VPS.
Do you know how to proceed this thing?

В продолжение темы про новое файлохранилище с модами ( http://www.wakeofgods.org/mods/ ) появилось предложение на главную страницу ( http://www.wakeofgods.org/ ) установить страницу с подробным описанием модов и прямыми ссылками на них.
Думаю ни кому из присутствующих не составит труда набросать простенький index.htm (можно и без графики вовсе или...в общем по желанию).
Совсем простой пример:

So if you want modifications at wakeofgods.org, and if you are capable of designing them, I will give you pass and you do it. I only know how to upload files, no idea how to change anything. I have a storage of 20+ GB.

Думаю если сайт предполагается использовать только в качестве хранилища + навигация по этому хранилищу - то нет смысла делать крутую графику (в шапке тематическая картинка + текст с гиперссылками).

of course is nice to have more sites proposing links. The backside is that we don't have automatic update system so some mods on those sites will remain bugged time going by, as they will not be updated. However I will try to keep wakeofgods.org as up to date reference.

Plain - простой в данном случае и относится в данном случае к технологии и внутреннему содержанию страницы, а не к её внешнему виду
.Я тут подумал... Ориентируйтесь, пожалуйста, на страницу http://skyrimgems.com/ (я имею в виду, что по функционалу достаточно неплохо (при этом размер всего 120кб, не так уж много).

I got access again to wakeofgods.org but when trying to get in via:

it says "cannot read license". Sydr or Bersy, or whoever has the password to site, can you please help me? They answered:

1) Описания получились длинными, потому что они генерируются автоматически. В идеале в общем списке мод выглядит как-то так (уменьшил размер текста и кнопки скачать):
2) Русский будет позже. Если появится много описаний на русском - будет раньше.
3) С телефонов на этой странице делать нечего (со смартфонов тоже). Открыл у себя на смартфоне и посмотрел - пользоваться вроде можно. Нужно больше конкретики.
4) Если сгрузить компактно - выглядит фигово.

Valery, west support service is really terrible, money for action they performed themselves. Could you write, that:
"We did not change any working Apache settings, anything was all right till 9-th of February. Seems like someone from your team updated cPanel and something went wrong".
If they refuse to help, I think we will better move to another service provider. 11$ + 5$ for nice panel. Backup and transfer is fast nowadays.

I went to cpanel support and to be able to put a request, they ask me to provide tons of techincal data, server root, IP host, name of server, 5 pages full of blank fields to fill, thats madness. So I wrote back to host1.plus and got same blabla answer

Guys, I will close wakeofgods next month. It costs me 360$ annually and it looks almost none is still downloading. I will however upload all the mods and keep them to some free site, as google drive or anything good that you can suggest to me. Is yandex safe? My problem with it is that there is no english option at all so can't get the details. I am open to suggestions.

If you need some net place to upload and download, both Yandex Disk and Google Drive are good, I don't see any problem.
Yandex have Language parameter, of course.
